India is continuing to develop the use of off-grid solar power for nearby energy needs. India has a poor electrification rate in rural areas. In 2015, only 55% of all rural area houses had access to electricity, and 85% of rural houses depended on solid fuel for cooking. Solar products have increasingly helped to meet non-urban needs, and by the end of 2015, a collective complete of just under 1 thousand solar power lamps had been purchased from the country, reducing the need for expensive oil. In addition, a collective complete of 30,256 solar power powered h2o pumps for farming and normal h2o had been set up. During 2015 alone, 118,700 solar power home illumination systems were set up, and 46,655 solar power street illumination set ups were provided under a national program. The same year saw just over 1.4 thousand solar power ovens distributed or purchased from India.
